Soft opening MHC St. Eustatius

17 January 2020

Oranjestad – Wednesday the 15th of January Mental Health Caribbean (MHC) opened their new building in attendance of the St. Eustatius Healthcare Foundation and other invited stakeholders and colleagues. MHC moved from the previous location on Rosemary Lane to a new building in Bay Brow. The new location is a considerable downsize from the previous offices. This is in line with MHC’s general trend of shifting from a ‘care’ perspective to more of a ‘cure’ perspective. “Treatment has become more prevalent over care activities over the years. We believe this trend can be beneficial to destigmatizing mental health issues and normalization”, says MHC island manager Jacco Vaders.

MHC makes a conscious choice to focus more on their core business and to invest in the quality of the staff. “Providing ambulant mental health care to cure mentally ill patients is the core business of MHC”, said Jacco Vaders during his opening speech. Mr. Gerard Berkel, director of St. Eustatius Healthcare Foundation (SEHCF), emphasized in his speech the excellent cooperation between MHC and SEHCF.

The opening ribbon was cut by Jetty Constansia, senior social psychiatric nurse and care coordinator on Statia together with MHC director Erik Jansen.
